Our second wild stravaig through Radical Scotland for Repeater Radio is now available to listen again. From Gaelic psalms to happy hardcore, with an inspired mix from turntable legend Mariam Rezaei to close the show. Our mission is to explode official narratives of Scottish music, moving freely between genres and eras. The next show will be on Friday 26 February, with special guest Fielding Hope talking about radical Scottish music, the politics of DIY, and much more!
Jazz Police, I hear you calling…
Meanwhile, over at the Neon Hospice, the Jazz Police keeps skronking. Our latest show goes out tomorrow evening at 8pm GMT. We’ve got a whole bunch of great new music to play, but we’ll also be paying tribute to the genius of Milford Graves, who we sadly lost last week. And if you haven’t seen Jake Meginsky’s Milford Graves: Full Mantis, it’s streaming on a few different services. One of the most inspiring music documentaries ever made: unmissable.

This is where I post some tasty links. Savour that oaty goodness!
Ion Engine featured artist Kapil Seshasayee interviews composer-percussionist Sarathy Korwar for his Desi Futurism website.
Check out the latest Burd On The Wireless show from experimental folk duo and Neon Hospice fam Burd Ellen!
Burd Ellen are among the fine acts featured on Concrete Islands, an excellent culture site founded by my good buddy Stewart Gardiner.
Rory Scothorne asks Is Scottish Independence Inevitable? over at Politics.Theory.Other. The full episode is for subscribers only - and as it’s one of the best left podcasts out there we’d recommend you sign up if you can - but there’s a teaser here. Rory is one of the sharpest commentators on Scottish politics and culture - a critical left supporter of independence in the tradition of Tom Nairn.
That’s all for now folks, but Ion Engine will be back with some big news soon. In the meantime, keep eating that haggis and blasting those tunes!
