Radical Scotland at Tectonics Glasgow
We speak to Ilan Volkov ahead of the game-changing new music festival
It’s been a busy month, so Ion Engine has some catching up to do. I’ll bring you a roundup of recent radio shows, publications and adventures in the coming days, but in the meantime, I’d like to draw your attention to Tectonics Glasgow, which takes place online this weekend. The festival has been a game-changer for new music in Scotland and beyond, so we’re delighted to welcome Tectonics creative director and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra principle guest conductor Ilan Volkov to Radical Scotland on Repeater Radio. My esteemed associate producer and resident turntable genius Mariam Rezaei will be taking over the reins for this one. She’s worked with Ilan on a number of occasions - including Tectonics 2015, where she premiered a new work for Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra and performed a duo with sepulchral vocalist Attila Csihar - so she’ll bring unique insight to the conversation. The podcast goes out on Thursday May 6 from 6-8pm is followed at 10pm with an hour long Tectonics DJ mix by Mariam and Ilan. It’ll then hit the Repeater Radio Mixcloud, so you can catch up or listen again at your leisure.
Tectonics is an international festival, but it’s always supported the homegrown scene. Don’t miss Radical Scotland favourites Sonic Bothy, Hannah Ellul & Rebecca Wilcox, Olivia Furey, and Iain Findlay Walsh.
